Hookham Hall is designed to be converted into a film theater. With a state of the art overhead film projector, donated by a professional theatrical equipment company, we are able to turn an entire wall of the studio into a movie screen. The room can seat 50 people, and it is a perfect atmosphere for public presentation of ballet, art, independent and educational films.

Students can also use this as a viewing room for our growing library of DVD and VHS films of dance and the history of dance. MFAB owns many unique and valuable films of Fonteyn's dancing, including her own VHS tape of broadcasts of her interviews and dancing.

Also in the library are private films made of Rudolf Nureyev's dancing. Nureyev always had a friend in the audience of each of his public performances with a recording device. The earliest of his performances in the west, after his defection in 1960, were captured on 8mm film without sound. These films have been transferred to video format and are available for viewing by students and scholars.

An employee of British Telecom has donated the entire library of BBC productions of the plays of William Shakespeare. And MFAB Director Ken Ludden has many private video tapes of his work with Fonteyn and Nureyev including a video of Fonteyn's Washington, DC memorial service at Saint Matthews Cathedral, and the Kennedy Center Tribute to Rudolf Nureyev which Ludden produced and directed.

These films and a library of more than 1000 titles are available for viewing, and MFAB offers subject-specific film series for the public.

Also in the MFAB film library are all of Ludden's productions, performances of Les Ballets du Monde (the National Arts Group's professional ballet company) and all of the public presentations of MFAB students.
