With the integration of general arts studies programming as a main
augmentation to the Academy educational plan, Peekskill offers numerous
opportunities for community cooperation and coordination. The Academy will
work with Jean Friedman in the Planning Department of City Hall to develop
and maintain an Arts Education Registry Sourcebook from which students and
their families can identify and enroll in suitable arts educational programs as
required for acceptance into the Academy.
In developing this Sourcebook, the Academy will seek high quality educational
opportunities in a wide variety of fine arts. The Sourcebook will list classes
offered that are open for enrollment to the general public and young artists in
particular. It will also have a separate listing of private art, drama, voice and
music teachers with whom students can enter into individual training programs.
There will also be a general listing of artists who are willing to work as a tutor
for students studying a specific art form, those who are available to teach
and/or lecture at the Academy, and seniors who wish to serve as arts mentors
to emerging artists.
Entries into the Sourcebook will be reviewed annually, and those listed will
need to provide a current and updated course listing, be available to serve on
review boards for arts examinations, and be willing to fill out Academy
progress report sheets for each student.
Inclusion in the Sourcebook registry will be determined by a jury of arts peers
from outside of the Peekskill area. Criteria for inclusion will be based on
credentials, experience with arts education for youth, suitability of program
content for youth, and, where applicable, with public performance/display
opportunities worked into the offered curriculum. Applicants will have to show
reviews of their work, and give detailed course descriptions. There is also an
area of the application form to indicate willingness to work together with
Academy staff to develop programs tailored specifically for Academy students,
and willingness to create special one-on-one, project-based courses for
Upper School students.
The list will also include, where suitable, programs offered by public and
private schools in which the students might be enrolled for their general
education studies.
Visiting artists will be invited to lecture or do seminars and workshops for
Academy students. Such special offerings will be made available to the general
public as well.
