Just as in the Lower School, to progress from one level to the next, each
student must successfully demonstrate their technical ability, their artistic ability
in general arts studies, and pass a written exam. There is no fixed time a
student is expected to need for progression to the next level, but the course
work is designed so that a diligent student can achieve the next level in a single
calendar year. However, if a student fails to pass the required tests for the
next level for three consecutive years, a special conference will be held with
the student, his/her parents, and a review board made up of Academy staff.
Below are the requirements for entry into each level in the Upper School:
Apprentice – Ballet Technique Class, Two Group Dances, One Solo
Character Dance, Presentation Of Original Work Of Art By The Candidate,
Written Exam
Corps De Ballet – Ballet Technique Class, Partnering Class, One Group
Classical Dance, One Pas De Deux, Presentation Of Original Work Of Art
By The Candidate, Written Exam
Soloist – Ballet Technique Class, Pas De Deux, Classical Solo (approved),
Neo-Classic Performance, Presentation of Original Work of Art by the
Candidate, Written Exam
Principal – Participation in Public Evening of Classical and Other
Performances, Three Pas De Deux, Two Classical Solos, Thesis or Major
Work of Art.
